Here is John Weddleton’s Campaign Announcement:

weddletonLongtime Anchorage businessman and volunteer declares candidacy for open Assembly seat for South Anchorage, Girdwood and the Turnagain Arm.

“The time is right” said John Weddleton, a business owner and community leader in South Anchorage. “Neighborhood friends have encouraged me to run for the Assembly for a few years now, and with my kids grown and my business strong, I’m ready to move to a more active role in keeping Anchorage a strong and financially resilient city.”

Weddleton has worked as an economic consultant and owner of multiple successful businesses in Anchorage, including BOSCO’S, a local icon. In his spare time, he has served on several Community Councils and on the Planning and Zoning Commission, is active within the Chamber of Commerce, and has held leadership roles in the Boy Scouts and several outdoor recreation organizations. A full list of Weddleton’s civic involvement can be found on his campaign website http://weddletonforassembly.com/about.

Weddleton is known as a conservative but creative business owner.  His community work has taught him that we are all community partners when it comes time to protect our neighborhood.  He is running on a platform supporting conservative governance that is sensitive to neighborhood issues. Weddleton said:

“In a time of shrinking budgets at the state level, it’s more important than ever that we elect nonpartisans who can make balanced decisions and work collaboratively with each other and with the mayor.  While the Assembly must be ready to hold the mayor accountable, it must first work with the mayor to find solutions that are the best for Anchorage.”

“There’s no place for ideological agendas in city government. We’re not here to fight DC style battles, we’re here to keep the lights on, the budget in check, and our community strong.”

Weddleton is raising two children in South Anchorage, Kate and Ry. An avid motorcyclist, skier, and runner, Weddleton plans to focus his campaign on getting out to homes and having one-on-one conversations with folks in the neighborhood.  Keep an eye out for him!
