Jennifer Loofbourrow says that creating always starts with problem solving.
Alpine Fit is an outdoor apparel company based in Anchorage, created by Loofbourrow, specializing in an array of size options for base layers, leggings, hats, headbands and neck gaiters.
“I love a unique challenge and finding the unique solution,” Loofbourrow said. “I always found it frustrating that some certain outdoor clothing items fit some people but not others, and that inspired creating two different fit shapes in every size we offer.”
All Alpine Fit pieces are made in the USA, in the business’ midtown warehouse. Their sizes range from XS to XXL, or roughly size 0 to size 22 — a stark difference from the limited selection of sizes in the outdoor space, especially for women.
Alpine Fit is a combination of all of Loofbourrow’s passions, she says. With education and work experience in textiles and apparel, she decided to develop unique fabrics that are anti-odor as well as quick to dry.
“[I] rolled up my sleeves and figured out how to design and make them too,” Loofbourrow said.
Loofbourrow said that she has always been an artist.
“Whether it was creating dollhouses from cardboard boxes and wood scraps with my grandparents, making my own clothes in middle school, painting landscapes with acrylic paints in high school or getting into cameras and landscape and portrait photography — I have always had a desire to be creative,” Loofbourrow said.
Alaska is a great place to create and bring something into the world, Loofbourrow said. She describes the local support as “incredible” and that customers love supporting small businesses.
“[The] entrepreneur ecosystem is keen to see Alaska businesses and entrepreneurs thrive,” she said. “I think that there are many unique new opportunities for working together with other makers and I am excited to be a part of a growing ecosystem supporting local businesses, entrepreneurs and creators.”
